I found this interesting account posted as a comment on someone else's blog. I have no reference for it. I guess it might be apocryphal – but, unfortunately, it has the ring of truth about it.
I attended a church while on vacation and a man walked in that was dressed in shabby and dirty clothes with holes in his shorts and t-shirt. He needed a shave badly and a haircut. No one walked up and welcomed him to their church but they did me. No one asked him to sit near them but they did me. No one went anywhere near him but pointed him out to others and whispered about him. The next Sunday the new pastor, a good looking and well groomed man asked everyone from the pulpit if they greeted everyone with a smile when they come to the church. They all agreed they did. So he asked why they did not do so when HE came into the church last week tho he was not well dressed and needed a shave and haircut. He then gave one of the best sermons I’ve have heard in a long time.
It's quite sad what we often do to people who are not on “our level”.
It certainly does expose us and our desperate need of a Savior.
Thank you, Paul.
